You Are (here)
This week I discovered a blog (and website and mindset) that I just love, called kind over matter. This post, Tell Someone You Are, charmed me (click it, it’ll take you a few seconds to read), and the photo, by pominoz, completely captured my imagination.
For the last few weeks, I’ve been wrestling with questions of identity and direction, struggling with boundaries and demons I thought I’d banished. I’ve felt a little lost, a little swept up by the human tide, and this picture, when I saw it, felt like somebody grabbing my hand. You are. An existential statement to be sure, but also the beginning of something – a definition that I get to finish.
I Am…
restless
under construction
not wrinkle free
thinking big
letting go
pushing the edges
embracing the messy
alive
awake
here.
What are you?
Lovely poem, lovely thoughts, Judy. And thanks for sharing your humanness. 🙂
Awesome!
You are… brilliant!
Ok — I like to play along and this is hard:
I am: taking some time, embracing some space, gaining momentum, in progress, settling the hell down, learning, hopeful, sometimes scared, sometimes brave, becoming me.
Loved the link to the site.
Thank you.
Can’t you just be our inspiration, J? Instead of inviting us to participate? I never could turn down a dare and rarely turn down an offer/request from a friend….and I have to be honest, or why bother to do it?……so….
I am: {right now, this minute} in pain, needy, frightened, alone, lonely, in love, loveless, drowning, surviving, weary…..
but check back tomorrow…it could all be different by then.
I am, liking and fearing this all at the same time… it’s too easy to “be” only in the farthest reaches of my soul, while the public me that everyone knows (knows? really?) exists on the surface… Who knows what eruption of emotional magma will rise to the surface by expressing “I am”…
However, J, I am inspired to take that netless leap, to begin to not only uncover, but to embrace the “I am” that I am… After all, islands are formed by lava flow… maybe there is a new creation just waiting to be formed by the uncovering of the caldera… So, I am:
twisted
passionate
intense
figuring me out
out of shape
getting older
running on empty
looking for the perfect margarita
such the dreamer
listening
pursuing life
becoming thankful
loving loving
soon to be, accepting me…
good start, maybe… will sit in the gate and ponder 🙂
Linda, How sweet. It was a list at first. I had it numbered, but then thought it would look prettier centered. Thus a poem was born. 😉 Please, all the real poets out there, know that I am kidding!
Becky, beautiful list. I know. Isn’t the site awesome?
Dani, Fluid. SO much better than static. You know I will check back tomorrow. 😉
TPM! I’ve missed you. Back in full force, I see. What an awesome list. I will join you in your margarita search. Can I be your first mate?
Thanks J! Great post! Hmm I am:
tired, busy, stressed, happy, a work in progress, learning, contented but not content, awake. 🙂
I love that you wrote a post about Kind Over Matter! I am a HUGE fan and even teamed up with them for a random act of kindness project last year.
psssstt…I think you left something off your list. A writer of poignant and beautiful words.
p.s. Thank you for that last part. BIG, delighted smile.
Loved your post and the picture is awesome!
Okay. Let’s see. Today, I am
in pajamas
drinking coffee
thinking
tapping into inspiration
hopeful
being a friend to myself
stilling the inner critic
a work in progress
a writer in progress
Caroline, You forgot awesome hat maker. I need to post that picture here. *puts on to-do list*
HippieChick, it was your tweet that led me to Kind Over Matter. I love their blogroll too. I think they may be a daily stop for me, now. Kindness over coffee.
Marisa, Me too! You’re entire list is me right this second. We’re twins. Makes me want to run outside and see if anyone calls me by your name. 😉
Quite thought-provoking! That said, I am:
bewitched
bothered
bewildered – No, wait. Start Over! :o)
I am:
curious
expectant
time-worn
polite
intentionally enigmatic
hopelessly romantic
amused and amusing
steadfast
well-intentioned
a big-time dreamer
cautiously optimistic, but
resigned.
Does anyone else hear an old Neil Diamond song playing in the background? oh never mind…
I am hopeful
I am cynical
I am a friend
I am a thorn
I am deeper than you can imagine
I am exactly what you see
I am more than words
I am less than what is written
I am a fan of the journey
I am off to Starbucks on a Sunday morning
I am ME!
good golly, the stuff that comes out when I sit and tap the keys, sheeesh! —- “I ammm I said, I ammm I cried…” Oh man, wait till they hear me in the coffee line in a few minutes!
Ok, brain now in gear, here we go…
I am:
confused
re-discovering
going through stuff
learning
embracing
connecting
stressing
living
writing
not here, I’m over there
Lovely post BTW!
Croondog, Cautiously optimistic but resigned. Wish I could grab your hand and jump off the edge of something. *hug*
Bobby, I like friend and thorn. You are absolutely you. Your comment made me smile.
Sam! Hi! Excellent list. I especially like going through stuff (and connecting, because that got you here.) Oh, and writing. Yay!
I thought the line about going to Starbucks was the real highlight! But I can understand how you liked the other. It was written for you! ha! Have a fun Sunday!
I am
Smiling
Inspired
Musing
Optimistic
Nocturnal
Hey, J ~ Did you notice? Looking at just the first letters of Simon’s comment =
“I Simon”
Boy, we have to be on our toes around the clever, blushing Scotsman.
This post is inspiring. I’ve been loving your blog since I started reading it a few weeks ago. Thank you for writing.
I am on an adventure.
Simon, Nocturnal. Yes you are. (Lucky for me, or I’d never get to talk to you!)
Rex, Thank you for commenting! I love this line: “I am on an adventure.” I think that’s what I’m going to start telling everyone when they ask me what’s up. 😉
Your and the post you linked to have just inspired me to write a poem series 🙂 Thank you!
Love what you are honey, but you forgot awe-inspiring 😉
Estrella, Really? Yay! I assume the poem series is posted… Can’t wait to see!
Already have the first one 🙂 It will get posted once the whole series is done.
