Getting all grand and everything

I absolutely ADORE the idea of doing something in grand fashion. What would my day look like if I expected things to happen in a grand fashion? Or if I took steps to make them that way?
~ Havi Brooks, The Fluent Self

In the midst of some really exciting things, some of which will be unveiled here soon (in grand fashion, of course). Stay tuned!

In the meantime, feel free to tell me about your grand thing. Bonus points if it involves cheesecake, wine or a baby hedgehog.

(Or you can just say hi. I like that too.)

Hi! But I won’t leave it only at that.

Nothing too grand over at this end. I’m finally done with the wedding favors order and it really wasn’t worth the trouble either money or stress-wise. But that’s life, and I had to give it a try. Now I know what to avoid next time.
Hoping to get back to blogging next week, I’m allowing myself to take a break as I’m too burnt out at the moment.

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:17 am

I can’t even begin to tell you how many of those experiences I’ve had. “It seemed like a such a good idea at the time” should be engraved on my tombstone. Rest up. Feel better. xo

  2. Nuttin' on April 26, 2012 at 5:34 am

I’m doing lots of grand things that may not seem so grand to anyone else but that’s not really the point of my grand things. I’ll keep doing my grand things and maybe the grand stuff will seem pretty neato to someone else and then it will be even grander because sharing grand stuff makes it better.

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:19 am

I think a lot of grand things (sudden insights, internal shifts, northy steps) aren’t recognized by anyone else besides ourselves… and they may actually be the grandest things of all.

    • Nuttin' on April 26, 2012 at 8:30 am

… then I’m beaming with grandness.

  3. veryc0 on April 26, 2012 at 6:15 am

I have that hedgehog pinned on one of my Pinterest boards. Could you just die?! I want one.

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:24 am

That little guy (or girl) melts me every time I look at him/her. (And also, briefly, makes me think I could run a foster home for baby hedgehogs, but then I remember that Lexi is likely not hedgehog friendly, and they don’t stay babies, and someone on Facebook said they smell really bad, and anyway if I’m holding a cute hedgehog in my hand every minute because I can’t bare to put it down, my writing will slow down by 97 percent, possibly even more, because most of the keys on my laptop no longer have letters on them, so the only way I can find my away around them is to put both hands on the home row just like they taught me once upon a time in typing class..And that’s when I usually get hungry and close the little hedgehog picture – and put away my foster home dreams – and make a sandwich.)

    Hi! 😀

My grand thing for this morning is to get to work by 8. I’m sure more grand opportunities will appear throughout the day, and I will deem them grand, savor them, and thank you for asking me to think of grandness!

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:25 am

If you didn’t, you should read Havi’s post. It’s all about making the mundane things grand too. It’s a very, very cool idea.

  5. Mary on April 26, 2012 at 7:26 am

Hi J… I am trying to write a poem today for “N.”

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:28 am

Yay! I can’t wait to see what happens.

It’s Poem In Your Pocket day! I’m going to print out Phenomenal Woman and carry it around with me.

I am headed to The Atomic Testing Museum in T-minus 5-hours to see the grandest of the grimmest. Lithium-6.

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 8:26 am

The grandest of the grimmest is a great phrase. Have fun?

I just cleaned house on a pretty grand scale. We’re talking moving furniture and everything! *whew*

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 2:32 pm

I SO need to clean house on a grand scale!

  10. Julia Fehrenbacher on April 26, 2012 at 11:25 am

Grand…today I got my butt to the gym and “spun” like crazy (it was one of those spinning/biking classes)! It felt pretty damn grand because I have (for some reason lately) been avoiding exercise. It feels grand & good to be finding my exercise groove again.

Oh and finishing my book and having it on its way to being published feels HUGELY grand to me right now.

Remembering to breathe and come back to my soft center place may be the grandest of all.

I love you, beautiful, brave, GRAND J.

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 2:32 pm

      Awww, thank you! xo

You’re being grand all over, Julia! I’m blinded by your grandiosity!

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 2:34 pm

      It’s official? YAY!

“Cannonball!!!!” made me laugh. That’s exactly why I chose the image i chose!

    • Kellie J. Walker (@YourLifeInGear) on April 27, 2012 at 8:59 am

It’s official. Kind of scary to say ‘out loud’. But, that’s part of the whole “grand” thing, right?

Always happy to make you laugh. 🙂

    • j on April 27, 2012 at 12:10 pm

I’m feeling all full of myself that you made noise here. <3

  12. Michael on April 26, 2012 at 1:06 pm

Hmmm… grand. I’m not much for pomp, but today is day 19 of my latest smoking cessation bid. I seem to be getting the hang of it this time. I suppose that might qualify by some measures. And I came here. That’s always, you know, pretty grand. 😉

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Wow! Yay! That is so great. I’m rooting for you big time! And, just to be clear, whenever you’re here, ZS feels grand.

  13. Pam on April 26, 2012 at 1:06 pm

I love the grand experience. This reminds me that I need to have one soon. (Thank you!)

    • j on April 26, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Yeah, me too. And I love Havi’s thought that being grand is as easy as being absolutely, unquestionably present.

I just finished my 3rd 5k tonight since April 1st and I cut 2:30 minutes off my best time! Woohoo :^) I felt like I did it in grand fashion – sweaty, redfaced and all!

    • j on April 27, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Woo-hoo! We will toast your grand badassery this weekend for sure! You are an inspiration to me.

  17. lunajune on April 26, 2012 at 10:51 pm

    cannonballing into each day…. boooyahhh
oh if only the weather was warm enough here.. and the lakes hot enough to just do it.. I’d be in that water in a heartbeat

organizing a trip to Disney World in Florida with one of my oldest and dearest friends for the beginning of August.. her only son has been through soo much from a heart transplant to a heart that held a secret.. Epstein Barr virus which lead to a couple years of really crappy crap… no other words to describe it.. but he’s doing well now… her husband is having a hip transplant next month … so august we are running away… just us two… rollercoasters and eating with Mickey Mouse & Goofy for 5 days… oh ya
    excitement to come for sure.

until then…. unfolding to the wonder that comes

love and light from me to you

    • j on April 27, 2012 at 12:08 pm

Wow, June, your grand plans just gave me chills (in the best possible way). What a perfect thing for the two of you do – get away to the happiest place on earth and just let go of all the yucky for a while. Friendship, fun and Mickey! Great (er, GRAND) plan!

  18. Taoist Soul on April 26, 2012 at 10:55 pm

I got to play with a baby hedgehog last week! I wouldn’t say it was exactly ‘grand’, but it was a lot of fun. Turns out that baby hedgehogs are really fucking adorable!! 😀

    • j on April 27, 2012 at 12:09 pm

You did? Are they sweet? Are they soft? Do they roll into little balls all the time? Do their feet make you want to cry because they’re so fucking cute? I’m SO envious. I must put “play with a baby hedgehog” on my life list.

  19. Milli Thornton (@fearofwriting) on April 27, 2012 at 1:24 pm

My grand thing will be posted grandily on the FoW blog next Tues.

Can’t wait to see what you’re planning to unveil.

    • j on April 27, 2012 at 8:34 pm

      I. Can’t. Wait. Until. Tuesday. But I will.

  20. Crack You Whip on May 5, 2012 at 9:57 pm

My life has nothing grand going on right now, except I have a puppy now so that is the best thing I have going on right now. Excited to see what you have going on!
